I am happy to announce the release of my new website. I really enjoyed working with the team over at Tahoe Media Group. I am very pleased with their creativity, design work and the overall functionality of the new site.
It is really cool to watch the evolution of technology as I grow my business. Years ago when I launched my first jewelry site, it was simple but I remember how much I enjoyed just seeing my jewelry online. Today I am totally impressed with the new site and all the bells and whistles. Crystal Ricotta did an awesome job designing the site. I love her use of color and how the navigation buttons resemble my illuminated jewelry. Neil Belliveau did a great job with all the programming. Kathleen Hood is helping us fine tune the SEO. Big thank you goes out to their whole team. Thank you for the high level of professionalism and results!
If you have a moment check it out, let me know what you think.

The Oakland Marriott City Center in Oakland, California hosted the second international Psychedelic Science Conference April 18th -21st, 2013. MAPS (Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelics) established in 1986 is a 501(c)(3) non-profit research and educational organization that develops medical, legal, and cultural contexts for people to benefit from the careful uses of psychedelics and marijuana. Over 100 of the world’s leading researchers from 13 countries presented. The Marketplace was full of vendors, healers, bodyworkers, a teahouse, and an impressive art gallery. It was an absolute honor to be among many of our favorite visionary artists like Alex and Allyson Grey, Android Jones, Autumn Skye Morrison, Clay Chollar, Peter Westermann, Mark Henson, DeLa and MANY more. The vendor lineup, which included Dr. Bronners Soap, DanceSafe, Erowid, Leom Designs, HydroSouls, just to name a few, was great.
A special thanks goes to Virginia Wright, Director of Marketing and Development at MAPS and Rick Doblin, Ph.D., Founder and Executive Director of MAPS for choosing to use Garbarini Illuminated Lockets as the Galileo Award. Clint Werner and his partner Donald Abrams were awarded the Galileo Award at Saturday night’s Myron Stolaroff Tribute Dinner. Donald Abrams is chief of the Hematology-Oncology Division at San Francisco General Hospital. Clint Werner is the author of Marijuana: Gateway to Health. Together over the past two decades they have researched, studied, educated others and campaigned for the use of medical marijuana. They were awarded the Galileo Award for their ongoing persistent efforts and their significant achievements. It was the highlight of our weekend, seeing the Garbarini Illuminated Lockets given on stage to these two gentleman. One was a clear quartz featuring high quality cannabis, the other a Tourmalinated Quartz lit by an LED light. Following the award ceremony was a performance by Phadroid Jones, check out the video below!
We will definitely be back next year and highly recommend this event. The shared wisdom of this entire community is outstanding and I really believe working to make the world a better place. Interested in a glimpse of what goes on? Check out videos from the past conferences are available on the MAPS website.
Mark successfully emerged this year in Tucson as the first fine jeweler to backlight stones with LED technology. The Pueblo Gem and Mineral Show at the Riverpark Inn is the perfect fit for Mark’s jewelry. It is full of exceptional designers like Stephen Ruse, Lou Guerin, and many more. Near his start in 2007, he showed up in Tucson with one small case of his first pendants. Based on the expert advice of a fellow jeweler, who noted how unique and special Mark’s creations are, he put the collection away and stopped showing people that year.
Using a grassroots strategy established in Northern California and now traveling nationwide he continues to build his company. Mark spent the last five years in his studio developing a full array of designs ranging from his original illuminated pendants to illuminated lockets, poison rings, hat pins, hair combs, and bracelet cuffs. He also makes stunning earrings, rings, triple rings, belt buckles, hair chopsticks and more. His clean, bold designs flaunt the stones he handpicks throughout the world.
Mark is always creating new designs and is stocked with stetch books full of ideas.and His unique style is becoming increasingly well received. Person after person at the booth had never seen anything like his work and expressed how refreshing it is to see something new, something different.
Mark went to The Revere School of Jewelry in San Francisco and is a classically trained goldsmith and diamond setter. He made himself the first light up piece in 2005 for Burning Man and received so much positive attention, he went on starting in 2007 to develop his whole Illuminated Jewelry Collection. Now creating waves through the jewelry and festival communities with his avant garde, one of a kind designs, he travels the country vending and promoting his jewelry at all sorts of art shows and festivals. Mark is based with his beautiful wife Chelsea Garbarini in South Lake Tahoe, California. Mark looks forward to returning to Tucson for many years to come each February.
As we gear up for this summer’s travel the drive to Bonnaroo in Tennessee from Lightning in a Bottle in Southern California comes to mind. The ’77 GMC, Mark brought back to life made it all the way there with minor complications. We were very fortunate to meet a couple of angels aka experienced mechanics along the way. Mike Cowin was an awesome host in Palm Springs inviting us to chill poolside, relax and even let us take over his house to unpack, repack and do laundry. Most importantly he hooked us up with his desert angel mechanic Darren. We wouldn’t have made it without the love he put into the motorhome before we left.
Lots of desert, blue skies and open space along the route from Southern California to Tennessee. On Sunday, we stopped in Memphis for some local flavor at Interstate BBQ. Ask Mark about his favorite BBQ from the summer, he is becoming quite the connoisseur! Being Sunday we couldn’t find anywhere open to replace a part on our generator. By chance across the street from the BBQ place was Mr. Totten’s Repair Shop. Mr. Totten has been in business for over 40 years just happened to be in on Sunday working on his racecar. Mr. Totten stopped what he was doing, fixed the generator no problem and even took us site seeing around Memphis. We were pleasantly surprised all throughout the south by the constant southern hospitality and friendliness. Asking someone for directions meant they would show you where.

One step FURTHUR….Bill Walton rocking his Garbarini Pendant New Years at the Bill Graham Civic Center in San Francisco, CA.
Still soaking in the fabulous vibe of celebrating Chels-a’s 30th birthday on fantasy island at Mayan Holidaze in Tulum, the Illuminated Jewelry team pumped the positivity at Furthur. Furthur, at the Bill Graham Civic Center downtown San Fransisco was a beautiful multigenerational gathering of loving like minded folks. Parents and their adult children and sometimes grandchildren frequented our booth. One father shared with his adult son how he had first brought him to see Jerry Garcia at the Bill Graham when he was four months old. He pushed his way to the front with his new baby, stayed for two songs then made his way to take his other two children to the front. He raised his three children in a VW bus on Grateful Dead tour selling quartz.
The big highlight of our weekend was connecting with Bill Walton and his wife Lori. The production was exquisitely orchestrated at the stroke of midnight, Bill was onstage dressed as father time wearing his new teal lit pendant as a phoenix with a beautiful woman riding it flew down over the crowd and landed on the stage. The crowd raged as the Band went into Sugar Magnolia to ring in the New Year.
We are extremely grateful for all the love and support we have received over the past year as a growing small business. Thank you to all the friends and family who are an integral part of this journey!
May 24th-28th, 2012
These past two weekends rocked being at the epicenter of this transformational festival movement happening around us. It is so inspiring and heightens our awareness being surrounded by so many creative, conscious people . The Do Lab and their crew continually exceed our expectations of what type of space should be created at a festival.
The plethora of live painting, art, and ear candy like EOTO, Shpongle, Lafa Taylor, Big Gigantic at their events is overwhelming. It was great to see Gary Stadler’s Nexicon Portal again. It was one of our favorite Burning Man installations last year. Check out Michael Heitebrake’s pieces he painted live and other pieces emerging from this outerdimensional party at http://www.doartfoundation.org/initiatives/community-outreach-programs/lightning-paintcan/
After chilling by the pool in Palm Springs we are now driving the 1977 time traveling GMC across the country to Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival in Tennessee. Come find us in Centeroo if you are there! See ya out and about!
Awesome to witness our community bonding together to rebuild stages, structures and spirits after 70 mph winds wrecked havoc on the site early in the week. The dust storm Tuesday prompted us to debut our new intergalactic mobile showroom. Two years ago Mark began working on this concept by reserecting a 1977 GMC Palm Beach motorhome, yes same model as the one in the Bill Murray movie Stripes. It will be fun to watch as his baby evolves and continues getting pimped! We need help coming up with the perfect name, help us with ideas, right now we like Starship MoonWalker.
Big thanks goes out to all the volunteers and staff, especially Cara the vendor coordinator for doing a great job and making the event such a pleasurable, positive experience for us. Being surrounded by amazing friends, the best beats…Little Dragon, Barisone, Gaudi to name a couple favorites, and experiencing the solar eclipse in such a powerful place was by far the best way to kick off our largest Illuminated Summer Tour yet.
